Monday, First Light

Navy over grey, brown at the bottom. The week starting on its front foot.

De The Considered Commute

Notas de estilo

Navy and grey is the oldest pairing in menswear and it survives because the two colours are close enough to read as one and far enough apart to have a seam. The brown shoe is what stops the whole thing going cold.

Leave the blazer unbuttoned when you sit. Hopsack has no structure to protect, so it falls back into shape on its own.

Why it works

  • The flannel drapes, so the trouser line stays clean from waist to shoe.
  • White oxford is the only shirt that is correct with and without a tie.
  • Chestnut against charcoal is a warm note in an otherwise cool outfit.

Swap it

Sand suede chukkas in place of the loafers, and the same look moves from Monday to a Thursday afternoon with nothing in the diary.
